INTRODUCTION TO BALANCING RULES FOR CHEMICAL EQUATIONS

(CLICK ON WINDOW FOR FULL GRAPHIC)

Since the beginning of time, man has balanced chemical equations by guessing and using math skills which can be frustrating to the average chemistry student.

This will all change now that there are RULES to help you balance an equation.

THE BALANCING RULES PRODUCTS (Click on price for an Order Form)

SOFTWARE:

"Balancing Equations: Eliminating the Guesswork." This product is unique because when you finish placing coefficients, it has a screen for double checking your answer using the "atom count" boxes. More importantly the software contains the Balancing Rules that make it easier to balance an equation correctly and in less time. The program contains literature on balancing equations, how to use the rules, and over 60 equations which range from novice to expert. The software only runs on PCs, sorry Apple users.

PRICE: $99/disk or $240 for a class set of up to 24 stations.

BOOK:

The "Balancing Rules Guide" will help you learn the rules so that you can teach them in your class.

PRICE: $9.95/book or $95 for a class set of 24 books

THE HISTORY BEHIND PROFESSOR MOLE'STM BALANCING RULES

How come two students can try to balance an equation, but start off with two different elements? I remember asking my teacher, "How do I know which element to pick first because the one I choose usually leads to a dead end?" He replied, "I don't know, I guess it comes with experience." With something as precise as chemistry, there should be a set of rules. After two years of teaching, I found myself answering the same question for one of my students. This prompted me to develop the Balancing Rules, which took more than 400 hours to complete.

HOW DO THE RULES WORK?:

To get the full set of rules, you will have to purchase the software "Balancing Equations: Eliminating the Guesswork" or the "Balancing Rules Guide." However, I can tell you there are 4 "simple to remember" rules that will rank all of the elements involved in the equation in a specific order. This allows everyone in the class to work out the equation the same way and will help them get the correct answer in the shortest time. THEY WILL EVEN BE ABLE TO BALANCE THE MOST DIFFICULT OF REDOX REACTIONS!
